Could the Kansas City Chiefs have a golden opportunity to trade for a new star wide receiver?
According to multiple reports, including ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Seattle Seahawks wideout D.K. Metcalf has requested a trade. Schefter’s report also included the anecdote that Metcalf prefers a move to a contender, which could be highly relevant in the Chiefs’ case.
Outside of Xavier Worthy, the Chiefs aren’t sure which receivers will be available and worthy of playing time by Week 1 of the 2025 season. Metcalf could be the missing piece they need to get their offense back to high gear after they lost some explosiveness the past couple of seasons.
After the news of Metcalf’s trade request broke, John Dillon of Chiefs Wire strongly urged the Chiefs to pursue a trade for the two-time Pro Bowler, who is entering the final season of a three-year, $72 million contract extension.
“Kansas City’s front office should absolutely take a look at Metcalf in the coming days and evaluate what kind of edge he could bring to the Chiefs’ offense,” Dillon wrote.
“General manager Brett Veach has already been active in the trade market heading into free agency, and with a player like Metcalf available, fans should expect Kansas City to do its due diligence on every elite playmaker who might help the Chiefs get back to the Super Bowl next season.”
Metcalf, 27, has 6,324 receiving yards and 48 touchdowns thus far in his six-year career, all with the Seahawks. He comes with a $31.9 million cap hit for 2025, which will make spending on free agents much more difficult for Kansas City, but could pay major dividends in the passing game.
After failing to win the Super Bowl for the first time in three years, it would be no surprise to see the Chiefs go all-in on rejuvenating their passing game. And there’s no bigger name available right now than Metcalf.
