In a resurfaced interview with Millie Bobby Brown, the actress suggested that she was ready for motherhood months before she announced that she and husband Jake Bongiovi adopted a child
Actress Millie Bobby Brown, 21, has just announced that she and husband Jake Bongiovi have adopted their first child together, and a resurfaced conversation has fans noticing she suggested she was prepared for this moment for months.
A Smartless podcast interview from back in March sees the star talking about her and Jake’s plans for parenthood, which hinted that it would come soon. After acknowledging that she knows they’re “really young,” Brown said that she is really looking forward to becoming a mom. Jake is 23.
“My mom actually had her first child at 21, and my dad was 19. And you know, it’s been my thing since before I met Jake,” the star told hosts Jason Bateman, Sean Hayes, and Will Arnett. “Since I was a baby, I told my mom, like, baby dolls. I wanted to be a mom just like the way my mom was to me.”
She continued, “And my nan, my grandmother is, she was a huge part of my life. And so, yeah, I mean, Jake knows how important it is to me and, of course, I want to focus on really establishing myself as an actor and as a producer, but I also find it’s so important to start a family for me personally.
“It’s a huge thing. Jake was like, we cannot do that until we get married. So that was his thing,” she added.
The Stranger Things star also revealed that she and her husband are planning on having a large family, since they both come from four-child households.
“And my thing was, I really want a family. I really want a big family,” Brown shared.
“I’m one of four. He’s one of four. So, it is definitely in our future, but, for me, I don’t see having your own child, you know, as really any different as in adopting,” she said.
Brown continued to hint that the pair were exploring adoption, saying, “My home is full of love for anyone and anything, and so that is what we kind of stand by, Jake and I, is our energy in the house is the door is always open, and we want everyone to feel really comfortable.”
A month ahead of the podcast visit, Brown shared with Vanity Fair’s March 2025 cover story that she and her husband are “pretty united” on important topics, including how they planned to grow their family.
We talked about our political views, what kind of family we want to build, the kind of home we want to live in, the kind of relationship were looking for, the kind of careers we want,” she told the outlet.
“Its such an important decision, and we wanted to make sure we were making the right one. I knew I was. It always felt right with him.
Now, the pair are officially parents as they welcome a baby girl together, just a little over a year after they tied the knot in May 2024.
She posted a statement to Instagram, reading, “This summer, we welcomed our sweet baby girl through adoption. We are beyond excited to embark on this beautiful next chapter of parenthood in both peace and privacy. And then there were 3. Love, Millie and Jake Bongiovi.”
Fans reacted to the big news on social media, with one person writing, “i need proof cuz the last time i blinked she was 14.”
“Millie Bobby Brown is married and adopting a child… Isn’t she 11,” another joked.
“the concept of millie bobby brown being a mother. wow times flies,” a third fan reflected.
