Jake Paul will take on Gervonta Davis in an exhibition bout in November, with the rules for the fight having been confirmed by the YouTuber-turned-boxer earlier this year
Jake Paul had previously outlined the terms for a potential clash with Gervonta Davis – with those remarks now gaining fresh attention after their bout received official confirmation.
The social media star-turned-pugilist had been expected to face Anthony Joshua in the coming year and even disclosed that the matchup would happen at Wembley Stadium. Joshua suffered a significant setback on Wednesday afternoon when the official Netflix Turkey account announced that Paul would instead be battling ‘Tank’ Davis on November 15 at State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia.
However, the announcement was swiftly removed before Ring Magazine later verified it, though citing November 14 as the date. Earlier this year, Paul indicated that a bout between himself and Davis was nearly finalized.
Appearing on the Ariel Helwani Show, Paul commented: “That was on the one yard as well, but he has to rematch Lamont Roach. He wants to get that back.
“Then we will be back in discussions with Mr. Gervonta. But this is the nature of boxing, you have massive fights on the one-yard line and then they fall through.”
Numerous observers are puzzled about how the fight could feasibly proceed given that Davis weighs five stone less than his opponent. Paul disclosed back in May that it would be authorized as an exhibition match.
The 28 year old – primarily competing at cruiserweight – dropped back down from heavyweight in his most recent outing – a decision victory over Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. Davis, conversely, naturally competes at super lightweight (140lbs), and would need to add as much weight as feasible.
The 28 year old social media sensation confirmed the rules, stating: “It would be an exhibition, 10 three-minute rounds.
“No restrictions, just the fact we couldn’t actually get it professionally sanctioned.” When pressed about what weight the bout would take place at, the ‘Problem Child’ responded: “195.”
Paul continued: “I never really thought Tank was that good, it just took the right fighter to pick him apart to be honest. Someone who had high activity and wasn’t afraid of his power.
“So, I always saw so many holes in his game, to me it wasn’t that surprising that someone finally gave him some good work.”
Paul’s elder sibling Logan notably battled Floyd Mayweather back in 2021, and journalist Mike Coppinger believes supporters could witness something comparable in November regarding the regulations.
In a message shared on X – previously called Twitter – he stated: “When Floyd Mayweather faced Jake’s brother Logan in an exhibition, Mayweather couldn’t weigh more than 160 while Logan was capped at 190. Would expect some similar exhibition rules for weigh in here.”
In another post, he summarized the massive breaking development, writing: “Gervonta Davis was slated for a title fight rematch with Lamont Roach in August while Jake Paul was in talks for a major step-up against Anthony Joshua, the former heavyweight champion.
“Instead, they will meet each other in what amounts to a show that will no doubt do big business, but is less fighting than it is entertainment given the weight disparity and exhibition rules.”
